Chiropractic Care During Your Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be one of the most wonderful, yet stressful experiences for your body. The human body is absolutely amazing in its ability to create new life, carry it and nourish it while it develops and grows, then at the perfect time, deliver a beautiful baby into this world. While the body is perfectly designed to handle this process, it is not always without stress.

Can you imagine any other time in our lives where our physique changes so dramatically in only a matter of nine months? This dramatic change greatly affects our ergonomics and spinal and pelvic alignment. This is why we believe that EVERY pregnant woman should be under regular chiropractic care before, during, and after her pregnancy.

Think about the birthing process for a moment. Your baby has to be perfectly aligned to travel through the pelvis for an optimal delivery to occur. If your pelvis or sacrum are not properly lined up (subluxated), the exit route for your baby will be compromised and you could experience a longer or more difficult birth.

Our goal at Holistic Life Chiropractic is for you to have the most comfortable pregnancy and most healthy, natural, enjoyable birthing process possible. Dr. Voelker has taken advanced coursework to further her knowledge and experience in working with pregnant women. She has had great success in utilizing the Webster Technique to optimize neuro-biomechanical functioning within the pelvis and sacrum to allow babies to move into the best possible position for a natural birth.

Regular chiropractic care will help your pregnancy and delivery to be more comfortable and efficient. Also, since your adjustments will be optimizing all of your nerve flow, regular chiropractic care during your pregnancy is also extremely beneficial for your developing fetus. We want to help you have a wonderful pregnancy and birthing experience!

Chiropractic Care For Your Family

Dr. Voelker loves caring for patients of all ages, but she especially enjoys working with children! Her youngest patient was only a few hours old. What an amazing start to life - to have a fully functioning nervous system!

Think about the birth process...in order for a baby to be born, its shoulders need to turn one way, while its head is turns the other. This alone could cause a misalignment (subluxation) in your baby's spine. Now imagine what happens to that spine when a baby needs to be pulled out - that creates a lot of force and torsion on that delicate spine and nervous system. Dr. Voelker finds that the most common area of subluxation after birth in a newborn is the C1 vertebrae. When the C1 vertebrae goes out of alignment it can affect the brain stem and the nerves affecting the eyes, ears, nose, throat, sinuses, immune system, or fight and flight mechanism. A simple, gentle chiropractic adjustment here for your baby could prevent colic, ear infections, digestive issues, and more. Immediately after birth is the best time to have your baby checked.

As babies grow and develop, it is important that they are meeting their developmental milestones in a timely manner. Chiropractic care can often help with achieving those milestones. Does your baby army crawl, side crawl, or did your baby skip crawling all together? Proper crawling is extremely important for proper brain development of your child. Another very important reason to have your child checked for subluxations, as adjustments can help.

When a child is learning to walk they fall, on average, 23 times per day. Can you imagine what your body would feel like and what your alignment would be like if you fell that much in one day? What about when your child is learning to ride a bike or climb a tree? More great reasons to have your child's spine checked for subluxations. Correcting subluxations at a young age will prevent more serious issues as your child gets older.

A school child's backpack should weigh no more than 10-15% of their total body weight. Most children's backpacks I check are closer to 20-30% of their body weight. Also, many of those backpacks are not properly fitted or worn to prevent injury. Children are spending more time with their heads bent down on hand held devices than ever before. What do you think that does to the natural curvatures of the spine? Even more reasons for your child to be checked for subluxations
